Do you enjoy making or viewing art?

Jack

Yes, I like both. I draw pictures at home when I have free time. I also go to museums with my family to see paintings. Art helps me feel happy and calm.

Examine the Response

  • Why is this a good response?

  • What's the main idea?

  • Key details: Find the who, what, where, when, why, or how in the response.

  • Which words or phrases can you use from these responses?

Examiner

Why do you think creativity is important?

Jack

Creativity is important because it helps people make new things. For example, an artist can paint a picture, or a writer can create a story. It also helps people find good ideas when they have a problem. When people use creativity, they can feel happy and proud.

Examiner

Should schools focus more on creative subjects?

Jack

Yes, I think schools should have more creative subjects. Classes like music, art, and drama help students relax and enjoy learning. Some students are good at drawing or singing, not only at math or science. These subjects also help students find what they are good at.

Practice 2

Read the dialogue with your tutor. Each sentence is missing either the main idea or a key detail. Use the dialogue to fill in the missing parts and complete the sentences.
