Practice 1

Read the dialogue with your tutor. Then, work together to analyze the student's responses. Try to understand the speaker’s purpose and find useful words or phrases you can use in your own answers. Finally, practice responding to the same questions with your tutor.

Examiner

Do you enjoy playing sports or watching them?

Eva

I enjoy both, but I prefer playing. When I play sports like badminton or basketball, I feel more active and energetic. It also helps me relax after a busy day. Watching sports is fun too, especially when it's a big game with friends.

Examine the Response

  • Why is this a good response?

  • What's the main idea?

  • Key details: Find the who, what, where, when, why, or how in the response.

  • Which words or phrases can you use from these responses?

Examiner

What do you do to stay fit?

Eva

I usually go for a run in the park early in the morning. It helps me clear my mind and start the day feeling fresh. Sometimes I also join fitness classes or do some light exercises at home when I don't have much time.

Examiner

Do you prefer exercising alone or with others? Why?

Eva

I think working out is very important, but I try not to make it feel like a chore. I choose activities I enjoy, like dancing or playing tennis, so staying fit feels fun. It’s also a great way to relieve stress and boost my mood.

Practice 2

Read the dialogue with your tutor. Each sentence is missing either the main idea or a key detail. Use the dialogue to fill in the missing parts and complete the sentences.

Examiner

What sport would you like to learn if you had the chance?

Eva

I would love to learn how to play tennis.
