Examiner
What’s your typical weekday like?

Noah
My weekdays are usually busy with school. I wake up at 7:00 am, eat a quick breakfast, and take the bus to school. I have classes until the afternoon, then I do homework or study at home in the evening. Before bed, I sometimes watch videos or play video games with my friends online to relax.

Examine the Response
-
Why is this a good response?
-
What's the main idea?
-
Key details: Find the who, what, where, when, why, or how in the response.
-
Which words or phrases can you use from these responses?

Examiner
Do you do the same things every day?

Noah
Most days are the same because I have a fixed schedule for school and homework. But sometimes things change if I have a test, school event, or need to help my family with something. On busy days, I might stay up later to finish my work. I try to plan my time so I don’t feel too stressed.

Examiner
How do your routines change on weekends?

Noah
My weekends are more relaxed. I usually sleep a bit longer and have breakfast with my family. In the afternoon, I meet my friends, play sports, or go shopping at a shopping mall. Weekends give me time to rest and do things I enjoy outside of school.
Practice 2
Read the dialogue with your tutor. Each sentence is missing either the main idea or a key detail. Use the dialogue to fill in the missing parts and complete the sentences.

Examiner
What is the busiest time of day for you?

Noah
The busiest time of day for me is in the morning.

Noah
________________________________________. (fill in the main idea)
I usually do these things in the evening after I finish my schoolwork. They help me forget stress and feel more relaxed before going to sleep.
Practice 3
Answer each question clearly and completely. Start with the main idea, then support it with key details or examples.

Examiner
Do you think routines are important? Why or why not?
Should people have the same routine every day?
What might happen if someone has no routine at all?
